Ways to Help
2.5–3 hrs per session

Event Mentor

Float the room and help families with programming questions. No formal teaching required — curiosity and patience go a long way. Sign up for a mentor ticket and show up.

2.5–3 hrs per session

Event Volunteer

Check-in helpers, set-up/takedown, IT help for loaner laptops, and general session support.

Ongoing

Organizer / Ops

Handle logistics: meeting space, sponsors, loaner laptops, social media, outreach, session project ideas & development, and more. Meet occasionally via Discord or Zoom.

What to Expect

Informal. Energetic. Rewarding.

Do I need to be an expert?
Not at all. You need to be comfortable sitting with someone who is stuck and helping them think through a problem. Google is always allowed.
How long are sessions?
Two hours on Saturday mornings. Drop in for part or stay the whole time. Registration always required.
Is there training?
Not really. We’ll orient you at your first session. Experienced mentors are always around. The veteran attendees can teach you plenty too.
Can I bring my own kid?
Absolutely. Many of our mentors are parents. Building alongside your own kid is one of the best parts. Register them as ninjas if underage, and you need to select Parent/Guardian.

Ready to Show Up?

The easiest first step is to come to a session and see how it feels. Register and we’ll make sure you’re welcomed in.

Guiding Principle

“Peer-to-peer learning is much more effective than a single mentor imparting knowledge. Your job is to create the conditions for that to happen.”
